rec'd 10 FEB 04

Hongkong, 11th January, 1904.

Sir,

Goo 39687

03

With reference to the second paragraph of your Despatch No. 395 of the 3rd November, I have the honour to inform you that in the opinion of the Military Authorities the proposed site and mode of construction of the Magazine on Green Island are satisfactory, provided that no building is permitted to stand within 200 yards of the Magazine. It will therefore be necessary to select a new site for the Watchman's quarters, and this will be kept in view.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient

Humble servant,

A.W.???

Officer Administering the Government.

It appears there was an OCR error in the name "Amaz" which has been corrected to "A.W.???" to indicate that the full name is not clearly visible. If "Amaz" is correct, it should be left as is. However, based on historical context, it is likely "A.W." stands for "A.W. Brewin" or more probably "A. W. de O. Brewin" was not in post, a more likely candidate is "Francis Henry May" acting as Officer Administering the Government, or it might refer to "A.W.???" being an incomplete OCR of the actual name. For the purpose of this task, it is left as "A.W.???" to denote uncertainty.
